On a Saturday night, your parking problem is not “not enough stalls.” It is 12,000 cars trying to prove they belong in the next 400 yards of asphalt.
Booths, gates, and “have your ticket ready” lanes turn that surge into a 45-minute ingress. Fans miss the anthem. Rideshares clog the curb you left open “for overflow.” You staff every driveway like a toll plaza — and still lose the lots in the back that were empty the whole time.
This deep-dive is for venue general managers, event logistics directors, and special-event operators who need stadium parking management that moves cars, not clipboards. The combination that actually breaks the queue is gate-free arena parking (camera recognition at the throat) plus event parking wayfinding that sends the next car to a lot that still has stalls — not to the one with the shortest-looking line.
A physical gate is a serial processor. One vehicle, one transaction, one arm. Event arrival is a parallel problem.
The booth is a second checkout. If payment or permit check happens at the entrance, you have placed your slowest step in your narrowest geometry. A prepaid pass that still has to be scanned by a person is not prepaid. It is a booth with extra branding.

Treat ingress as a product, not a vendor feature list.
Before the event. Sell prepaid event SKUs and VIP permits to plates. Print lot QRs for the people who will not pre-book. Confirm LPR and occupancy cameras are on the lots you will actually open. Walk the wayfinding: does a driver heading in from the interstate get Lot C while it still has stalls, or only after A and B have spilled into the street?
During arrival. Watch live occupancy, not the booth count. When Lot A crosses the fill threshold you chose, wayfinding and cone staff should already be selling Lot D. Do not wait for the backup to reach the arterial.
During the event. Unpaid and wrong-zone stays are a compliance queue, not a reason to reopen the gate debate. Photographic evidence, digital pay.
After. Historical occupancy, dwell, and violation heatmaps are the after-action report: which driveway was a geometry problem, which lot was a signage problem, which product nobody bought.
If you are comparing stadium parking management vendors, run one test the week of a concert: a phone that has never installed your app, a prepaid plate, and a driver who has not prepaid.
